Now the next step is to know all the problems that new service providers face at freelance sites. You need to know all this to make sure you do not make any mistakes at freelance sites. One mistake can end a service provider’s freelance career.

Biggest Mistake Made by Many New Comers:

One common mistake that most of the new comers make is that they place bids on projects ,which they are not 100% sure to complete.

New service providers are desperate to win their first project. So they forget about the main concept of freelancing [place bid on a project if and only if you can do the work 100%] and start bidding on projects without knowing whether they can complete the work or not.

Remember: you need to place a bid only if you are 100% sure that you can complete the work in the given time period.

First Think and Then Win.

Wining The First Project:

The biggest challenge for any service provider at freelance site is to win his/her first project. Wining the first project at freelance site is the most difficult part of freelancing.

Majority of people, who quit freelancing, quit because of this reason.

You have to learn the art of winning the first project. Read the below article to know more:

How to Win Your First Freelance Project

Getting Scammed:

New comers often get scammed by buyers. This scam is not money related.

There are some scam buyers who will waste service provider’s time by not pay the money for the work that service provider do.

For example:

The most common type of scam that buyers use is where buyers ask the service providers to do some work as a sample. And they after they get the sample, they just never reply back.

Let’s take an example project:

A buyer needs 10 articles on the topic “SCAM”.

He then opens a project. He then ask all the bidders to write one sample article on the topic “SCAM”. The buyer tell service provider [to every bidder] that he will hire him/her if the sample is good.

Let’s say that there are 20 bidders on the project. All write the sample article in hope to win the project.

After all bidders submit the sample article, the buyer gets 20 articles instead of 10 articles.

Buyer got the work done without giving any money at all.

This is what we can call a scam.

How to protect yourself from such scam buyers?

The first thing to remember is that you never do a complete sample. Let’s say the buyer tells you to write a sample of 500 or 1000 or 2000 etc words. You just ignore what he say. Just write a sample of 150 words and send it to the buyer.

Working For Buyers:

Always try to not work for buyers who have zero ratings. However, not many buyers [with good ratings] give work to new service providers. So just try to win projects from high rated buyers whenever possible.

Do not work for buyers who have negative rating.

ONE BIG MISTAKE: THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER:

How to Get Ratings:

One of the biggest mistakes that new comers at freelance sites make is that they do not know the basic rules about getting ratings.

New comers need to earn rating and that is the only reason why they work for lowest rates.

Now what if the new comer completes the work for low rate and in the end he/she discovers that he/she is not eligible to get a rating for that project?

At GAF: you will get a rating and feedback only if you get all the money that you mentioned in your BID.

For example:

Let’s say that, for a project you placed a bid of $30. The buyer tell you via PM that he/she will pay you only $25. If you want this project then you need to agree for doing the work for $25 instead of $30.

$30 is the lowest amount of money that a service provider can place in his/her bid.

There are so many service providers who will agree to the buyer’s offer because they are so disparate to win their first ever project at freelance site.

After the work is complete, the service provider will not get any rating from the buyer.

Why?

Like I said, you will only get a rating if you are paid the full amount of money for the work. In the above scenario, the buyer paid $25 to the service provider where the bid was of $30. As long as the buyer does not pay $30 to the service provider, there can be no ratings for both the buyer and the service provider.

Do not get disappointed:

Many service providers leave freelance work in the very beginning because of the low amount of money that they earn.

Remember one thing: you will earn very decent amount of money once you earn some good reputation. Do not get disappointed and keep doing the hard work in the start.

There are so many people who work at freelance sites, and who are making their living from this work.
