GAF or Getafreelancer is a freelance site where you can get hundreds of online jobs. GAF is online since 2004. Although, GAF is not the oldest freelance sites, but it is still one of the top freelance sites on the internet.

In this article, I will explain about the GAF overall features and available options.

First of all we will talk about the top menu:

In the top menu there are [at the moment] seven different options.

Sign in or sign out:

This is the first option that you will see on the top. You do not need to use it if you have your personal PC [for registered users]. In case you are using a public PC, then you should sign out before leaving the PC.

Browse Projects:

This is the second option in the top menu and you will be clicking on this option a lot. This option will bring a page which you can call GAF home page. On this home page, you will see all the categories and projects that are posted at GAF.

Top Rated Users:

You can see the top rated people [both buyers and service providers] in this list.

Post Project:

This option is used if you want to post a new project.

Manage Account:

This is the option that will bring up your account details page. There, you can see the money you have made etc.

The next two options are about RSS feeds and Articles. These options are not very important.

At the bottom menu of GAF, there are not many attractive options available.

Very recently, GAF has added an arbitration system in their site. Before this arbitration system was added, GAF used to be a freelance site where buyers could easily scam service providers.

There was no guarantee that service provider will be paid for the work he do. This was a very disturbing situation as many people were scammed by buyers. Now, after the addition of arbitration system, GAF is a very safe freelance site.

Now I will talk in detail about the important options at GAF:

Browse Projects:

After you click on Browse Projects, on top you will see a list of categories like .NET, Data Entry, Copywriting etc. If you click on any of the categories, then you will see a list of projects ,that are only related to that specific category.

For example: if you click on data entry category, then you will see a list of all the active data entry projects, that are posted at GAF.

Below, the list of categories, there is a list of Featured Projects. At the moment, GAF is displaying 100 featured projects.

If you scroll down further, then you will see The 50 Newest Projects. This is the list of the 50 latest projects that are opened at GAF. Most of the time you will be refreshing this page [Browse Projects page] in order to catch the new projects before anyone else can see them.

Most of your time will be spent at Browse Projects page.

Manage Account:

If you click this option, a new page will open were you will see a menu on the left hand side, news and some more information in the middle and on the right hand side you will see your earnings.

News for Members

This is the first option in the left menu. You do not have to use it as when you will click on Mange Accounts, Account Details will open where you will be able to see the latest news from GAF.

Account Details

Whenever you click on Manage Accounts, Account Details will be the page that will open automatically. On this page you will see the latest news in the middle and your earnings on the right hand side. There is some other info on the page too. One of the info is whether you are a gold member or not. If you are not a gold member then you can use the link given on this page to become a gold member. And if you are already a gold member then you can cancel the option of auto upgrading to gold membership.

On this page, you will see your earnings on the right hand side. Here you will only see the total money you currently have in your account and you can also see the last transaction below the total earnings.

Here you will see a link saying “View All”. If you click on this button, a page will open that will show you all the history of your earnings at GAF.

Edit Account Info

Here you can add or edit all the info, that is related to your profile at GAF. You can see your profile in GAF by clicking on your username. Some buyers see profiles before they give work to a service provider.

So, you should have a good looking profile and Edit Account Info is used in case you want to change something in your profile.

Here you will also see an option to receive emails from GAF in HTML format or Plain emails.

You can also select to receive notification whenever a project gets posted that is related to your area of expertise.

Buyers Activity

This option is used to see the projects that you have posted. If you are only a service provider, then you do not have to use this option.

Buyers can see the projects they have opened at GAF.

Buyers can see a link via which they can cancel a project.

Buyers can see links to projects where they can give a rating and feedback to service providers. These are the projects that were opened by the buyer and that, the projects are fully completed.

Providers Activity

Here service providers can see the projects on which they have placed bids.

Here, they can also see the number of bids they have placed on projects and the number of bids that are left and the total number of bids that they can place in one month.

Service providers can also see a link, that they can use to cancel a project.

There is also a table of projects where service providers can rate buyers. These projects are the ones which are completed by the service provider and for which they are fully paid.

Affiliate Activity

This link is only used by people who refer users to GAF.

Payment Transactions

Here you will see four options on the top.

Deposit Money

This option is used by buyers to deposit some money at GAF.

New Escrow Payment

This option is also used by the buyers. This option is used if a buyer wants to Escrow money for any service provider for a project.

Transfer Money

This option is used by buyers to directly pay a service provider.

Withdraw Money

This option is used by a person who wants to get his/her money from GAF. There are many different options available for withdrawing money from GAF.

If you have put money for someone in Escrow or if someone has done Escrow Payment for you, then you will see that information in Payment Transaction option.

Disputes

Here you will see information about disputes, that you may have. You can also start a new dispute here or you can view an active one.
