Besides English, any other language is a positive or plus point for you, as there are so many jobs requiring translations from one language to mostly English language.

While writing the profile, there is one box asking for your areas of expertise and a list of various online jobs will have been given. If you are not a computer expert, do not worry and just enter for the copywriting and data entry jobs.

You have become a new freelancer member. The next step will be, to scroll down on the main page of freelancer site and click on the 50 newest projects. Now, the tough time will begin as, getting the first job is not an easy task.

There are Service Buyers, who post their jobs for certain amount of money; and the Service Providers like me, who request them for giving that particular project, with the promise that the work will be 100% up to their standards and will be completed in their desired time frame.

There are projects with variable amount of money, posting both the minimum to maximum amount. Being a new member, I shall advise you to start your work at the lowest rate, because this will be the only way to catch the buyer’s attraction.

For a new member, the bid can only be placed for a maximum of about 14 projects. But this number will be increased by one after every month. You start viewing all the projects.

I suggest, if you are not an expert of any field, it would be much better to go for the jobs like copy writing, and re-writing of the articles.

These will be the best projects for you to start. Now, take a look at the projects offering for the copy writing jobs. When you are satisfied to complete a certain project in the requested desired time, just click on that project.

Next, you read about the description of the project carefully. When you agree that you will be able to complete the project according to the buyer’s criteria, then scroll down a bit to click on, Place a bid.

The page which will appear will show a box asking you to put the minimum amount of money you would like to get for the project.

It is recommended that you put the starting or minimum price written by the service buyer; for example, a project denoting budget as $30-$250, would mean that the minimum amount of money with which a service buyer can deliver you is 30 US dollars.

So, you just put $30 in that box. Then, the next box will ask you the number of days, in which you will be able to complete that project. If the service buyer has already asked for a desired time frame like, 2-3 days, or one week, then you put the same number of days.

Then, you will see a box asking for any message to write down. What you need to write in that box is, Please view or check the private message.

What is this private message? First you place a bid filling the boxes as told, and then you go back to the project description page again. Just besides the name of the project buyer, you will see an icon saying, view PM, meaning a private message.

What you have to do next is, just click on that PM. Then, you will find a message writing box, which is the direct conversation between you and the project buyer. Write down an impressive message note, to ensure your quality of work.

It is advisable that, you write a sample article on any topic you like or know the best. Write down about 200-300 words article and keep it for your reference in the future.

Almost every service buyer would like to ask you about your sample work, in order to see the method, fluency, grammar and spelling mistakes. Above all, they all like the 100% original work.

So, try to write on a topic in your own words. Do not even try to copy a single word from other sources like internet or magazines etc; yes, you can take ideas and data from these sources, but will have to write them in purely your own words.

An important thing you will notice is that, most of the service buyers and providers are given rating for their work. Being a new member, of-course you will have to make some struggle to get that rating.

Now, when you are finished with the message, just post it and wait for the reply from the service buyer.

If the buyer likes your sample work, he will respond you as quickly as on the same day, or may take few days, depending upon the total time period of bidding for that project.

The time period of bidding is different for different projects. It may range from few hours to about 2-3 months time; but usually the buyers select the service providers before the bidding period is finished.

You will be considered very lucky, if you get a positive reply from your service buyer.

This is your first project. Congrats! Now all you have to do is to follow the guidelines provided to you by your service buyer. Keep a good contact with him/her and don’t be shy from asking anything about your project, which is unclear to you.

This is the time, when you will also have to settle about your payments. There are a number of options for getting the payments. This will also depend upon the service buyer’s choice; most of them prefer the payments either through GAF Escrow, or will send them through Pay pal.

At this time, if you prefer for Pay-pal, then you need to create a pay-pal account.

They will charge some money from the total amount to be transferred to your bank account. Besides pay-pal, you can use escrow, account which is provided by the freelancer site for you. The service buyer will escrow the desired money in your account either before or after completion of the project.

To be on the safe side, you better ask the buyer to put the money in your escrow account before hand. I advise you not to choose Western Union opinion, as it is quite expensive, with a 30% of the amount will be collected by them.

You can also opt for Money Bookers, who will transfer the money directly to your account. It is thought to be a bit difficult to open up an account with the money bookers, but once you get through it, the money will be transferred with just one click.

You also need to verify your postal address, as you will get a letter from them having a code inside. Using that code will allow the transfer of your money. Those banks that have got a SWIFT code can only be used. If your bank does not have a SWIFT code, then you better go for other options.

In order to find out, whether your bank is connected to this SWIFT network, is to search this site, SWIFT.com, and find out any bank in your locality included in their list, or you can just simply make a call to your bank and ask them about the SWIFT code.

If you do not have such bank, don’t worry, the other best option according to me would be through pay-pal. For having an account in pay-pal, you only need to verify your country to be included in their service providing list or not. Most of the countries have pay-pal facility.

Now, you finish the project efficiently, and if the buyer is really happy with your work, he will pay you for that instantly. Another important thing to tell you is that, when you receive the money for your first project, let’s say about $30, then you pay $12 to freelancer company in order to be a gold member.

Now, you might be thinking, what is this gold member ship? Why to go for it?

Gold- membership would mean that, you can place up to 150 bids in just one month, in contrast to a non-gold member, who can only bid on 14-15 projects. As you are a new member yourself, I think it would be beneficial for you to become a gold member as soon as you are able to earn some money.

Being a non-gold member, the bids may be finished soon, as I earlier mentioned that, it is quite difficult to achieve your first project among so many service providers having good rating and many years of experience.

The benefit for a gold member is that, no fee is deducted while you win a project, otherwise when you win a project, freelancer company will already deduct about 5$ for that project. Suppose you win a project of $30, then you will get only $25 upon completion of the project.

But there is a monthly fee for the gold member ship of $12, which is automatically taken from your account if you have. You have an option of quitting from the gold member ship, when ever you want.

Important to remember:

· Never give your any personal information through the PM (private message).This information includes your phone number, your messenger ID, e-mail or any other contact. If any buyer asks you about your personal information, you can file a report violation against him. This report violation icon can be found in the main description page of a project. Send the message through e-mail if sent through GAF (get a freelancer).

· Just emphasize on the 50 newest projects, and do not open any other page, as the old projects are for more experienced experts.

· At times, the service buyers would be asking you for more sample articles, with or without offering the least amount of money. If you have already sent them your sample work, then no need to follow them. They might just get the articles and will not respond you. This is my personal experience, which I am sharing with you. Always agree to the buyers giving you the project; otherwise don’t waste your time in writing plenty of articles for none.

· You might not get money for the article/articles disliked by the service buyers. They have special tools to detect whether your article is a copied one or purely original. So, remember not to copy anything from any source. You should be confident of writing the original articles.
